Dry Eye Check: 6 Quick Questions
Dry, gritty or tired eyes are very common in Singapore, with long screen hours and air-conditioning. Answer six quick questions to see whether dry eye may be playing a part. This check is a guide and does not replace an examination by an optometrist.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is this check a diagnosis?
No. It is a guide based on your symptoms and daily habits. Only an optometrist can confirm dry eye after examining your eyes, and find out what is causing it.
What causes dry eye?
Common causes include long hours on screens (we blink less), air-conditioning, contact lens wear, age, hormonal changes, some medicines and problems with the oil glands in the eyelids.
Can I just use eye drops?
Lubricating eye drops can ease symptoms, but they do not treat the cause. If you need drops more than a few times a day, or your eyes still feel uncomfortable, have an optometrist check your eyes.
When should I have my eyes checked for dry eye?
See an optometrist if your symptoms last more than a few weeks, affect your work or screen time, or make contact lenses uncomfortable. Seek medical care urgently if you have eye pain, sudden blurred vision, or a red eye that is sensitive to light.
