Contact Lens

If you've never tried contact lenses before, be prepared to be amazed what a tiny little lens can do.

You'll love being able to see clearly without your glasses for all of your life's activities.

Super-comfortable, easy to use and can correct almost all prescriptions. If you have a high prescription, contact lenses may even provide clearer vision than your glasses.

Myopia Control with soft contact lenses

An additional benefit of contact lenses, especially for children and teenagers, is the possibility of slowing down or even stopping their short-sighted eyesight deterioration associated with myopia progression. Myopia control with contact lenses is much more effective than with glasses.

Soft contact lenses for myopia control are available at our clinic — the MiSight 1 Day disposable contact lens. For even better results, consider night-time orthokeratology corneal reshaping technology (Ortho-K / OK lenses) for your child — a safe and effective form of vision correction.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I wear contact lenses?

In most cases, yes. Our optometrist can advise you on your suitability following your comprehensive vision and eye health assessment. The latest contact lenses can correct most kinds of focusing issues, including myopia (short-sightedness), hyperopia (long-sightedness), astigmatism (irregularly shaped eyes) and presbyopia (reading problems with age).

Do contact lenses hurt my eyes?

Today's soft contact lenses are extremely comfortable. Advances in lens material technologies have made the latest generation of contact lenses safer, more comfortable and healthier for your eyes than ever before. You'll forget you're even wearing them. If you tried contact lenses before and didn't enjoy wearing them, it's time to give them another try. We think you'll be impressed with how far the new lenses have come.

Is my child too young for contact lenses?

There's no minimum age for trying contact lenses. Our optometrist has successfully fitted contact lenses for many younger children. It depends on your child's maturity and whether they are ready, capable and motivated to give them a go. Parents are an important part of the process too. We'll explain to both you and your child all the steps in handling and wearing their first contact lenses.

For children we generally recommend starting with daily disposable lenses which are easier and safer for all their activities including swimming. Ortho-K night-time lenses is another great option for kids, with the lenses worn in the safety of home under parental supervision. Research has found that children who wear contact lenses are happier and more confident than kids who wear glasses.

What are the contact lens options?

All kinds of contact lenses from soft lenses to advanced hard lenses are available at our clinic. We fit daily disposable lenses, fortnightly and monthly replacement lenses, overnight extended-wear lenses, astigmatism 'toric' lenses, multifocal lenses, cosmetic coloured lenses, myopia control lenses, rigid gas-permeable lenses (RGP), scleral lenses for complex eyes, hybrid contact lenses, and orthokeratology lenses (Ortho K) that restore clear vision during sleep.

Our experienced contact lens optometrist will recommend the lens options best suited for your eye condition and your individual lifestyle needs.

Are contact lenses difficult to use?

Wearing contact lenses for the first time takes a little practice, but it's not difficult. Not as scary as you might imagine. It's like riding a bike — once you learn you won't forget. We are trained to give you the best possible experience and will patiently guide you through the process of putting the lenses in, taking them out, and taking good care of them. After one week we'll see you again to make sure you're happy and going well with your new lenses.

Can I have both glasses and contact lenses?

Of course! You may wish to wear glasses at work, and contact lenses for the weekend, for gym, sport or special occasions. Have two different looks. With occasional contact lens wear, daily disposable lenses are usually best. Wear a pair for the day and simply discard them when you're done. No cleaning, easy and hassle-free. You could even wear coloured contact lenses and glasses together - some people do! Express your individual style, your way.
