Menicon Bloom™ Day & Night Myopia Control Lenses

Menicon-Bloom-EMME Visioncare

Menicon Bloom™ is a two-part myopia control system for children and teenagers. It combines Menicon Bloom Day™, a daytime soft contact lens, with Menicon Bloom Night™, an overnight orthokeratology lens. At EMME Visioncare in Singapore, both are fitted as part of a structured myopia management programme after a full assessment of your child's eyes.

How the Menicon Bloom system works

Childhood myopia (short-sightedness) tends to progress as the eyeball grows longer. The aim of myopia control is to slow that elongation during the years when it changes most quickly. Menicon Bloom offers two ways to do this — a daytime option and a night-time option — so the lens choice can be matched to a child's age, lifestyle, prescription and suitability.

Menicon Bloom Day™ — daytime soft lens

Menicon Bloom Day™ is a daily disposable soft contact lens that uses an Extended Depth of Focus (EDOF) optical design. Rather than focusing light at a single point, the lens spreads focus across a range, which is intended to reduce the peripheral defocus signal associated with eye growth while still giving clear distance vision for everyday activities.

  • Wear pattern: applied in the morning and worn through the day, then discarded each evening — a fresh pair daily.
  • CE marking: Bloom Day carries CE approval specifically for myopia progression control in Europe.
  • Daily routine: fits into a normal morning routine and suits children who are comfortable handling soft lenses with some parental supervision.
  • Hygiene: as a single-use lens, there is no cleaning or storage between wears, which can make daily handling simpler.

If you are weighing up daytime soft-lens options, you can also read about MiSight 1 Day daily disposable lenses, another daytime myopia control lens we fit.

Menicon Bloom Night™ — overnight ortho-k lens

Menicon Bloom Night™ is an orthokeratology (ortho-k) lens worn while your child sleeps. It gently and temporarily reshapes the front surface of the cornea overnight, so that vision is clear during the day without glasses or daytime contact lenses. It is made from the high-oxygen-permeable Menicon Z rigid material to support corneal health during overnight wear.

  • Wear pattern: worn overnight, removed in the morning — no lenses needed during waking hours for suitable candidates.
  • CE marking: Menicon Bloom Night was the first orthokeratology lens to receive CE approval specifically for myopia control management in Europe.
  • Astigmatism: a Bloom Night™ Toric design is available for higher levels of corneal and refractive astigmatism, subject to assessment.
  • Routine: inserted as part of the bedtime routine; ongoing care and review are part of the fitting programme.

Because Bloom Night is an ortho-k lens, the overnight corneal-reshaping process and what an ortho-k fitting involves are explained in more detail on our orthokeratology page.

Neither option is automatically "better" — suitability depends on prescription, eye health, age, maturity and daily routine. Some families also prefer a spectacle-based approach such as MiYOSMART spectacle lenses. Our optometrists will talk through the options at the assessment and recommend what fits your child best.

What to expect at EMME Visioncare

Menicon Bloom lenses are prescription medical devices and are only suitable after a thorough eye examination. A typical pathway includes a comprehensive assessment of your child's vision and eye health, measurements to confirm suitability, the lens fitting and handling training, and scheduled follow-up reviews to monitor progress over time. Results vary between individuals, and ongoing monitoring is an important part of any myopia control plan.

Frequently asked questions

Is Menicon Bloom suitable for my child?
That depends on their prescription, corneal health and lifestyle. Suitability is confirmed during an in-person assessment with our optometrist — it cannot be decided online.

What is the difference between Bloom Day and Bloom Night?
Bloom Day is a soft lens worn during the day; Bloom Night is an ortho-k lens worn overnight that reshapes the cornea temporarily so no daytime lenses are needed for suitable wearers.

Does Menicon Bloom replace glasses?
For suitable Bloom Night wearers, clear daytime vision can often be achieved without glasses. Bloom Day is itself worn during the day. Your optometrist will explain what is realistic for your child.

How is progress monitored?
Through scheduled review appointments where we check fit, comfort, vision and eye health, and track changes over time.
