Progressive Lens Simulator – Compare Lens Types

Progressive Lens Simulator

Use this progressive lens simulator to see how progressive, occupational (office) and reading lenses work. Look far away, at a computer and at a book to see where each lens is sharp and where it blurs at the sides.

How progressive, occupational and reading lenses differ

  • Progressive lenses – one pair for far away, the computer and reading. The top of the lens is for distance, a narrower corridor in the middle is for the computer, and the lower part is for reading. The lower sides of the lens are softer.
  • Occupational (office) and computer lenses – made for desk work. The computer and reading zones are much wider, but far away is not sharp, so they are not for driving.
  • Reading glasses – clear up close only. Things across the room look blurry.

What the design levels mean

All progressive lenses have some blur at the lower sides, called distortion. Standard designs have the largest blurred areas and the narrowest clear zones. Advanced and Premium designs make these areas smaller. Personalised lenses are made for your eyes, frame and face and have the least distortion, so they are usually the easiest to get used to.

Getting used to progressive lenses

  • Look straight ahead for things far away.
  • For your computer, lift your chin a little so you look through the middle of the lens.
  • To read, lower your eyes – not your head.
  • Point your nose at what you want to see. Turn your head, not just your eyes.
  • Take stairs slowly at first.
  • Most people get used to new progressive lenses within a few days to two weeks.
