Essilor Stellest 2.0: Myopia Control Lenses for Children

emmevisioncare_stellest_2

Essilor Stellest 2.0 is the latest generation of Essilor's clinically studied spectacle lens designed to help slow the progression of myopia (short-sightedness) in children. Now available in Singapore, it builds on the original Stellest lens with an upgraded optical design called H.A.L.T. MAX technology. At EMME Visioncare, beside Dhoby Ghaut MRT, our optometrists assess whether Stellest 2.0 is the right fit for your child as part of a complete myopia management plan.

Why childhood myopia is worth managing early

Myopia is one of the most common vision conditions among Singaporean children, driven by more screen time and less time outdoors. It isn't only about needing thicker glasses each year — higher levels of myopia carry a greater lifetime risk of serious eye conditions such as retinal detachment, myopic maculopathy and glaucoma. The goal of myopia management is to slow how quickly a child's myopia progresses, not just to correct blurred vision.

How Stellest lenses work

Stellest lenses do two jobs at once:

Correct — a clear central zone carries your child's prescription, giving sharp vision in all directions, just like ordinary glasses.

Control — surrounding that clear zone is a constellation of tiny aspherical lenslets (H.A.L.T. technology) that create a volume of gently defocused light in front of the retina. This optical signal is what helps slow the elongation of the eye that causes myopia to worsen.

Because the control sits in the lens design itself, your child simply wears the glasses as normal — there's nothing to insert, and no contact-lens handling required.

What's new in Stellest 2.0

Stellest 2.0 uses an upgraded version of the lenslet design — H.A.L.T. MAX — with increased lenslet power and asphericity. By design, this generates a stronger optical signal than the original Stellest lens. In a clinical study, Stellest 2.0 was shown to be more efficacious at slowing axial (eye-length) growth than the first-generation lens, with a trend toward a greater effect in children whose myopia was progressing faster and in younger children.†

The original Stellest lens remains available too. Both are excellent options — which one suits your child best depends on their age, how quickly their myopia is changing, and their daily habits. That's a decision we make together at your appointment.

Stellest 2.0 lenses are made from AIRWEAR polycarbonate, so they're impact-resistant and block 100% of UV — well suited to active children.

Backed by research — including a trial in Singapore

The original Stellest lens has a strong, multi-year evidence base and was the first spectacle lens of its kind to receive FDA market authorisation in the United States. When worn consistently — at least 12 hours a day, every day — it has been shown to slow myopia progression by an average of 67% compared with standard single-vision lenses.‡

The efficacy of Stellest 2.0 was evaluated in a 12-month, prospective, randomised, double-masked clinical trial conducted right here in Singapore, comparing it directly against the original lens in the same children. This local, rigorous evidence is part of why we're confident recommending it to Singaporean families.

The single most important factor in results is consistent daily wear. Lenses left in a bag don't slow anything down — so we'll spend time with you and your child on building the habit.

Is Stellest 2.0 right for your child?

It may be a good option if your child:

  • Already wears glasses for myopia and the prescription keeps increasing
  • Has a family history of myopia
  • Spends long hours on near work, reading or screens
  • Was prescribed glasses at a young age
  • Needs an effective, low-fuss option without contact lenses

Every child is different, and there is no single solution that works for everyone. Effective myopia management usually combines the right optical correction, healthy visual habits, more outdoor time, and ongoing monitoring. We'll recommend the approach that fits your child — which may be Stellest 2.0, the original Stellest, Ortho-K, or another option.

Footnotes / disclaimers

† "Twice the signal / stronger signal" refers to the depth of volume of non-focused light created by design, and is not associated with twice the lens or lenslet power; it does not imply a corresponding doubling of efficacy in slowing myopia progression. Greater relative effect observed in faster-progressing children and a trend in younger children (under approximately 8.5 years) based on a 12-month clinical crossover study conducted in Singapore.

‡ Original Essilor Stellest lens: average 67% slowing of myopia progression compared with single-vision lenses, when worn 12 hours per day, every day, for two consecutive years (Bao et al.). Individual results vary.

Stellest 2.0 availability and suitability vary by individual. A comprehensive eye examination and professional assessment are required to determine whether this lens design is appropriate for your child.

FAQ

Is Essilor Stellest 2.0 available in Singapore?

Yes. Stellest 2.0 officially launched in Singapore in 2026 and is available through authorised optical practices. Book an assessment at EMME Visioncare to discuss whether it suits your child.

What age is Stellest 2.0 for?

It's designed for children with myopia. There's a trend toward a greater effect in younger children, which is why early assessment and intervention matter. Our optometrists will advise based on your child's age and progression.

How is Stellest 2.0 different from the original Stellest?

Stellest 2.0 uses upgraded H.A.L.T. MAX technology that creates a stronger optical signal by design. Both lenses are available; the best choice depends on your child's individual profile.

Stellest 2.0 or Ortho-K — which is better for my child?

Both are effective myopia management options. Stellest 2.0 is a spectacle lens with nothing to insert, while Ortho-K uses overnight contact lenses. The right choice depends on your child's age, lifestyle and preferences — we'll help you decide.

Where can I get Stellest 2.0 near Dhoby Ghaut or Orchard?

At EMME Visioncare, located at #02-13 The Cathay Mall, 2 Handy Road — beside Dhoby Ghaut MRT and a short walk from Orchard.
