Frequently Asked Questions
Why does frame size matter so much?
For short-sighted lenses the edge gets thicker the further it is from your pupil. A smaller frame, or one whose width matches your PD, often saves more thickness than a more expensive material.
What is the Abbe value?
It describes colour fringing towards the edge of the lens. Higher is better. Thinner materials have lower values, which most people do not notice, but some sensitive wearers do.
What about astigmatism?
Astigmatism makes the lens thicker in one direction. We show the thickest edge, so the real lens may be thinner in other directions.
Can lenses be made even thinner?
Yes. Aspheric designs, a smaller or rounder frame, and edge polishing can all make lenses look slimmer. Our optometrists will suggest the best combination for you.
