The MOSCOT story — New York since 1915

MOSCOT is a family-owned optical house from New York City. According to the brand, the story began in 1899, when Hyman Moscot arrived in New York via Ellis Island and began selling ready-made eyeglasses from a pushcart on Orchard Street, on Manhattan's Lower East Side. In 1915 he opened the family's first shop, and the business has now passed through five generations of the Moscot family. Today MOSCOT frames are sold around the world while keeping the look and feel of a downtown New York optical shop.

What makes MOSCOT frames distinctive

MOSCOT frames are known for handcrafted construction and a clean, vintage-inspired look. Many of the optical frames are made from thick block acetate and shaped into recognisable round and keyhole-bridge silhouettes that have changed little over the decades. The brand pairs that heritage design with modern touches such as custom tints and a range of fits, so the same classic shape can be made to suit different face widths and prescriptions.

MOSCOT's best-known frames include the LEMTOSH, MILTZEN, ARTHUR, DAHVEN, FOYGEL, DOLT and ZISSEL. The LEMTOSH — a round acetate frame — is the brand's signature style, while the MILTZEN offers a softer keyhole-bridge shape. Most models come in several colours, including classic black and tortoise, and many are also available as sunglasses.

MOSCOT sunglasses

MOSCOT also makes sunglasses. Many of the signature optical shapes — including the LEMTOSH and MILTZEN — are available as sunglasses with tinted or polarised lenses, and selected frames can take clip-on sun lenses. If you wear a prescription, MOSCOT sun frames can be glazed with prescription tinted lenses so you get the same correction outdoors.
