Finding readers from Off-The-Shelves to aid in your reading? Still cannot manage to get the best distance even after you got them? Perhaps the prescriptions from either of both eyes are different. You should consider consulting an Optometrist for an eye examination to find out what is best for you.

Presbyopia is an age-related condition that causes blurred near vision. It typically starts at around age 40 and affects everyone, even those who have never had vision problems before.

When presbyopia begins, people will squint or hold reading materials at arm’s length to help their eye focus. Eye strain, headache and fatigue are common symptoms of presbyopia. Most experts believe presbyopia is caused by changes to the lens inside the eye. As people age, the lens becomes harder and less elastic, making it more difficult for the eye to focus on close objects. For many years, presbyopia was corrected with the use of bifocal eyeglasses. Today there are many ways to correct presbyopia with progressive eyeglasses and contact lenses.

Here are 2 ways which Presbyopia can be corrected:

1. Once you detected you have difficulties reading at near distance, get a consultation to have your eye check. Eyeglasses are often prescribed when you develop Presbyopia in early stage. These eyeglasses are mainly called: “Bifocal, Multifocal or Progressive Lenses”, which has various prescriptions along the lenses to see far and near.

2. Contact lenses is another way to correct presbyopia. These contact lenses are adjusted according to your visual demands from your day to day activities. Your eyes automatically focus on near or far depending on the situation.

As we spend most of our time in front of digital screens, do not forget to have visual breaks to rest your eyes in between work. When Presbyopia sets in, you may start to feel eye strain is more common than before and that is when you will need to consider to get a consultation with an Optometrist for an eye examination.
