Comprehensive Eye Examination using Slit Lamp Biomicroscopy
Comprehensive eye examination in EMME Visioncare uses slit lamp biomicroscopy to assess the anterior part of your eyes. This is to detect any eye abnormalities. It is used as a magnifying tool for Ophthalmologists and Optometrists to view different eye structures in detail.
Slit lamp biomicroscopy has different magnifications, intensity of illumination and the types of illumination to view different structures of the eye.
The structures of the eyes in which the slit lamp will be assessing include:
- Eyelid / eyelashes
- Tear film
- Cornea
- Anterior chamber
- Conjunctiva
- Sclera
- Iris
- Crystalline lens
Your eye will be assessed by our Optometrist for any eye abnormalities. Below are some of the common eye conditions detected in an eye exmination Singapore clinic.
- Blepharitis
The inflammation of the eyelid which is accompanied with crustations on the eyelashes. Patients do not realize that their eyelashes are crusted most of the time. The magnification from the slit lamp magnification allows the Optometrist to have a better view.
- Meibomian gland blockage
The blockage of the glands along the eyelid margin. It is often seen as a hard lump. These glands are too small to be seen. Therefore, slit lamp biomicroscopy allows magnification to detect blockage of the glands.
- Arcus Senilis
The accumulation of lipids which is seen in elderly as a degenerative sign.
- Dry eye assessment
Our tears is transparent. We use a fluorescein dye to stain the tears and assess your tear film under a blue light. The tear break up time, quality and quantity of tears will be assessed to determine whether you are suffering from dry eyes. The use of fluorescein dye can also assess the integrity of the cornea.
The inflammation of the conjunctiva is mainly caused by allergic, viral or bacterial infection. Irregular surfaces may be found along the palpebral conjunctiva surfaces.
A form of degeneration of the bulbar conjunctiva. Pterygium at an advanced stage may cause blurred and distorted vision. Better advice and management can be made when this condition is closely measure and monitored.
One of the most common conditions that affects vision. It is commonly due to ageing, and can also be congenital or external factors such as trauma, intake of steroids or diabetes. Individual with cataracts will suffer from blurred vision and glare. Surgery to remove cataract will be needed when it is affecting one's daily activity or pose a threat to the vision.
